Tackle Spring Cleaning with Hacks from the One and Only, Joy Mangano

Entrepreneur and inventor Joy Mangano forever changed home cleaning by imagining and solving life’s little, everyday problems. With Mangano’s innovative housework hacks such as the Miracle Mop, Huggable Hangers and Joy’s personal favorite (and ours!), My Little Steamer – cleaning up has never been smarter, more efficient or stylish.

In January, Macy’s launched our partnership with Joy Mangano, bringing her full-line of household products in-store and online. In Coast to Coast’s exclusive interview, Mangano reveals more about her products, our partnership and of course, digging into that spring cleaning.

What motivated you to turn cleaning and organizing into a business?

I knew I had found real solutions that would matter to people. I have always believed in my products, and that I could truly impact people’s day-to-day lives with the ideas I dreamed up.

Spring cleaning can be a daunting task for some. How do you suggest getting started?

The best place to start is to pinpoint the biggest “problem” areas in your home, no matter how cluttered or disorganized. I’ve always believed that it’s best to tackle these challenges first! Don’t hide! Starting with the toughest home areas will make organizing everything else seem like a piece of cake. And if you are unsure – start with your closet!

Storage space seems to be a common problem for people reorganizing their homes. What do you suggest for those who live in small spaces?

If you’re living in a small home or apartment, the best thing you can do is keep things organized yet hidden. For the bathroom, I use my Large Better Beauty Case, keeping it under the sink and out of the way. You can load it up with all your supplies (gels, sprays, curlers, combs and more) in order to keep counter space free, while keeping bathroom essentials organized.

My narrow Huggable Hangers are another way to make the most out of tiny closet spaces. You’ll discover a whole new world of space you didn’t even realize you had.

If you had to pick one product that you couldn’t live without, what would it be?

Picking one product is like asking me to choose a favorite child – I can’t do it. But, I will say the one product I take everywhere is My Little Steamer Go Mini. I’m constantly traveling and with it I can easily keep all of my clothes looking fresh. I even use it at home, no need to take up space with an iron and ironing board anymore!

What do you consider as you’re designing a new product?

I am constantly thinking of how I can make everyday tasks simpler – so I get inspiration everywhere I go and with everything I do. Whenever I encounter a situation that seems to make life more difficult than necessary, I won’t stop until I have found the right product solution.

Any hints on what we can expect next from you?

I am always dreaming up new product ideas and I can say that I will be shaking up some new industries in the future.  I also recently became a grandmother, so it’s possible that you may see some baby-inspired products as well!

What do you want Macy’s customers to know about your products?

I want shoppers at Macy’s to know that I’ve designed each of my products with them in mind. Just like Macy’s, the customer has always been at the center of my business. The goal of my products is to make their days just a little bit easier, a little more stylish and of course, a little more joyful.
