On the Road with Jeff Gennette – Part 1

During his first week as chief executive officer at Macy’s, Inc., Jeff Gennette hit the road to make his first stops on a Town Hall tour that is taking him to our largest facilities around the country. At these Town Halls, Jeff talked about Macy’s future, his priorities and how it all fits into our new North Star Strategy. And he fielded lots of questions from our Associates.

Macy’s Associates were excited to welcome and congratulate our new CEO and show off their home offices. Hop aboard as we travel “coast-to-coast” with Jeff and check out his first three stops in Joppa, MD, Cincinnati and San Francisco.

First Stop: Joppa, Maryland

Jeff started out the week of March 27 in Joppa, Maryland. Scott Prieto, EVP of Macy’s Logistics and Operations hosted a day-long session with MLO Associates focused on leadership. Jeff joined the session where he talked about his vision for the future of Macy’s, shared his perspective on the company’s new brand purpose Make Life Shine Brighter, and answered questions from Associates. The Joppa team couldn’t have been more welcoming ... what a great way to kick off his road trip!

Second Stop: Cincinnati

Chief Financial Officer Karen Hoguet opened the morning by welcoming Jeff to Cincinnati. She congratulated Jeff on his new role as CEO and shared her own confidence in his leadership for the company. Before giving up the microphone, she handed him a surprise – a gift basket of items reflecting the best of Cincinnati including a book about the Roebling family, who built Cincinnati’s Suspension Bridge and the Brooklyn Bridge, and other local food and art items. After talking to the Cincinnati team about Macy’s strategy and 2017 priorities, everyone was invited to a reception to celebrate the occasion together. Adanya Stephens, a freshman piano player from the School for the Creative & Performing Arts, dazzled the room with her jazz performance. It was a terrific welcome.

Third Stop: San Francisco

In San Francisco, the technology capital of the world, RB Harrison, chief omnichannel officer, and Mike Robinson, EVP/Digital Technology, Customer Experience and Site Merchandising at macys.com, welcomed Jeff to the stage. In addition to sharing the inspiring vision of the future, Jeff met the Make Magic 6 Award winners. Along with a Town Hall session, Jeff had a chance to meet with teams on various floors of the building where he hosted interactive Q&A sessions. He left with a new addition to his wardrobe, his very own macys.com hoodie. Thanks to the tremendous energy of the macys.com team, it was a very exciting day.
