We’re reaching to the heart of what the Macy’s brand means, and that includes our commitment to our Brand Purpose to Make Life Shine Brighter. Our employees are the key to the authenticity of our brand. Your knowledge, dedication and enthusiasm make us proud.
To make life shine brighter for our customers, we need to shine brighter internally. How do we do this in our daily interactions with customers, partners, and each other?
We’ve created this inspiration board so you can read and share stories, and get inspired from your coworkers and teammates at Macy’s from coast to coast (and beyond!).Share Your Story
I treat all of my clients like they're my friends. I text them not only for sales but on their birthdays and holidays, as well. The personal touch means quite a bit to them and reinforces Macy's as a friendly place to shop.
My life shines brighter every day when I am in my stores and see how all of our teams work together. Today we collaborated with the entire Florida Mall Support, Visual and Selling teams to expand our Junior area based on our sales results and to continue to grow this business. It was wonderful to experience the comradery and excitement during this major move: from our Visual teams working with the MST and Facilities teams, to the Merchandising and Signing Associates and Merchandise Team Managers. As a result the move was completed prior to store opening. Life SHINES brighter when we all come together to create magic and results! Thank you, Florida Mall team!
As the Learning and Development team, we are often one of the first faces representing Macy's that engages with new hires across the country. Our role extends from training new hires across seven core business functions and numerous states to supporting the launch of new vendors in our offshore locations. Recently, our local facilitators trained the first waves of credit agents who will assist Macy’s customers from around the globe. This training entailed collaboration, partnership, trust and flexibility. We strive to make Macy's shine even brighter through supporting our customers AND our employees around the world each day.
Senior leaders at Macy’s Technology, Johns Creek, Georgia have been a great demonstration of reaching to the heart of what the Macy’s brand means and their commitment to our Brand Purpose to Make Life Shine Brighter during our Quarter 1 Leading Transformation FORward Summit. Jeff Gennette, our new CEO, has shown us that he has the guts to stand out, take risks, and make what he’s doing easy to follow—Make Life Shine Brighter. We've got momentum; we’re reaching the tipping point. Now we've got a movement – a leading Transformation FORward movement. Brian Leinbach, Bill Fielding, Mike Manougian, Nandu Gandhi, Julie Elmore, Karen Gray, Oliver Koehler, Mike Davis, Marlene Mckinny, Mary Ring, Michael Falk, Vinod Muthineni, Debbie Kishton, Robert Dickey, Gian Cacioppo, and Joe Tirocke have made life shine brighter for us and created everyday magic. Wendy Heinz, Renee Smith, Brian Protheroe, and I thank you for letting our L&D team facilitate this momentous time.
Everyday my mission is to have an impact on someone's life! Whether it be with a smile, an inspirational message or simply helping a client find their perfect outfit!
I make my team’s life shine brighter through collaboration and recognition! As the St. Louis and Kansas teams come together as one team, we’ve built new relationships, shared ideas, and stayed open to new ways of trying things together. I’ve created opportunities for us to come together individually and as a team. None of us have all the answers, so the more we collaborate, the smarter and more agile we are. Recognition also plays a key role in driving repeated results and behaviors, but Yammer helps us get to know each other personally. Through Yammer we can celebrate other’s achievements and Macy's team pride! #alwaysconnected
I shine brighter when my team shines brighter! Empowering others with meaningful assignments increases ownership, enhances collaboration, and brings new ideas to the table. It feels great to give recognition to a person or a team of people for efforts that drive results and serve as an example for others.
I am part of the amazingly talented Karen Scott Product & Design Team. We are proud to design, merchandise, source and produce Macy's private label, Karen Scott. We embrace "It must be Macy's" daily by focusing on what product will be unique to life. Our customer loves to celebrate every holiday, and we make the t-shirts that celebrate with her. Karen Scott, we Make Your Life Shine Bright!!!!
As the year began, I challenged my team to think of how to creatively encourage Associates to engage our customers even more. After collaborating, we came up with the idea of “magic walks” through the store, enabling the Associate to see firsthand how to make more magical experiences for customers through friendly and helpful service. Cynthia, our JBM in fine watches, took one of her consultants named Monica on a walk through jewelry and handbags. The walk established the importance of making the connection with the customer, and how the store experience connects to sales and magic. With this new approach and the leadership of Associates like Monica, customers noticed a difference. This mission has spread like wildfire throughout the store and Associates are catching on and wanting to be a part of the walks and the transformation forward. The total team is now engaged in helping every Associate and every customer's life shine brighter each and every day!
I like to listen to Van Halen on the way to work. It sets the mood for my day and helps get me energized. I know that we have an important job to do and we play a critical role in people's lives. When we deliver furniture to a customer, I like to think we are delivering their hopes and dreams. We directly impact people's lives and WOW is that a great feeling.
The team I work with shines bright every single day. Their creativity, passion, and drive show in everything they do. They know what it takes to make the customer experience the best. We have fun here in Chicago. There are bumps along the way, but we lift each other up and we help each other out. Making life shine bright is what we do.
I infuse each customer interaction with humor. The ability to make someone laugh has helped me in numerous situations with our customers. In four years with Macy's, I have never had a customer leave without at least cracking a tiny smile.
This is about how our Macy's Corporate Giving team made a group of Boys and Girls Club members shine brighter. I was asked to judge the counselor or the year competition for the Cincinnati Boys and Girls Club. To help the six finalists, Macy's provided a gift card so they could buy their first business suits and dresses. They came to their presentations with a new level of confidence and shined brightly there. They could not have been prouder of themselves and they all went onto college. Our contribution did not just clothe them, it helped them shine for years to come.
