Coast to Coast would like to give an ovation to the bold vision and fearless leadership of Terry Lundgren. As Terry transitions to Executive Chairman and officially passes the CEO baton to Macy’s veteran Jeff Gennette, the new CEO of Macy’s, Inc., let’s spotlight some of the amazing moments with Mr. Lundgren through the years.
Lundgren became CEO and president of Macy’s in 2003, adding the titles of chairman and chief customer officer in 2004. From 1997 to 2003, he served as president and chief merchandising officer. Under his watch, Macy’s consolidated its brand nationally, expanded internationally, entered the age of e-commerce, and became the biggest U.S. department store chain.
A visionary and bold innovator, Lundgren’s tenure at Macy’s revealed a level of business acumen that guided the company through challenging waters, including a 2007 recession and a digital climate that redefined fashion retailing. Through it all, under Lundgren’s leadership, Macy’s charged ahead as one of the nation’s most recognized and loved retail brands. These statistics tell a story in itself of Lundgren's tremendous success.
Lundgren kicked off the Macy’s Big Meeting with his trademark exuberance before welcoming Jeff Gennette to the stage, and handing over the Big Meeting microphone for the final time. Gennette however, did not let him go so fast – not without thanking the former president and CEO of Macy’s, Inc. on behalf of the company and presenting a moving video.
From all of us here at Macy’s, from coast to coast, we would like to say thank you, TL, for all that you have done for Macy’s, and for being an inspiring and fearless leader to us all.
