Macy’s Becomes First U.S. Department Store to Host Apple

What is the definition of the iconic, American department store in the 21st century? This month, the definition contains a new word: Apple. In October, Macy’s became the first U.S. department store to host an Apple hub inside its retail space. The new partnership between Macy’s and Apple reflects our store’s commitment to meeting the latest technological desires of our customers.

On Oct. 3, Macy’s launched the Apple Watche online at and in select stores nationwide. Macy’s launch of the Apple Watch added a new chapter to over 150 years of history bringing customers the most innovative products of the times.

Macy’s furthered this commitment of providing customers with the latest technology on Oct. 14 when it launched the Apple Shop at Macy’s Herald Square flagship location and became the first U.S. department store to host an Apple hub. Now customers can find Apple products set out on wooden tables nestled between the cosmetic and fragrance sections of the first floor. Adjacent to perfumes and lipsticks, shoppers can browse the Apple Watch Series 1 and 2, as well as the Apple Watch Nike+, MacBook, iPhone, iPad, Apple TV and other accessories.

“Fashion brands that have launched smart accessories have seen tremendous traction in our stores and online,” said Christa Cavanah, Omni GVP/DMM of Fashion Jewelry and Watches at Macy’s. “Customers love the glam and tech combination.”

In an age shaped by ever-changing consumer demands, bringing Apple to our customers reinforces Macy’s commitment to enhancing everyday lives through technology. The definition of retail has expanded in the digital age of the 21st century, and building Macy’s rich customer history means keeping current with consumer trends. Future plans involving Apple are ripening at Macy’s, including plans to sell the Apple watch at over 180 store locations nationwide by this holiday season.

Macy’s Smart Watch Shop launches officially on Nov. 4 in 187 locations,” said Cavanah. “The Smart Watch Shop will include a wide selection of smart watches and trackers and is a one-stop shop for connected wearables for the fashionista, athlete or tech enthusiast.”

The new partnership promises an exciting addition to what retails means for the 21st century department store. As we add the most advanced products to our assortments, we are confident that the main floor of the “World’s Largest Store on Broadway and 34th Street” will be a fitting home for the new Apple Shop at Macy’s.
