An Evening of Cultural Awareness and Global Fashion at Macy’s Metro Center

Macy’s Metro Center store in Washington, D.C. took on a decidedly international flair on April 26 when the store teamed up with Cultural Tourism DC (CTDC) for a special VIP celebration honoring ambassadors and diplomats whose embassies are participating in the 10th anniversary of Passport DC and the Around the World Embassy Tour.

Hosted by Beth Treon, assistant store manager at Macy’s Metro Center, and CTDC’s Steve Shulman, the event served as the official kickoff to International Cultural Awareness Month in May.

Guests learned about different cultures through special fashion displays and table exhibits from a wide variety of embassies, including Afghanistan, Bolivia, Ecuador, Kenya, Kosovo, Malawi, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Ukraine. They also enjoyed a fashion presentation showcasing Macy’s spring fashion trends.

The festivities continued on the lower level with multicultural cuisine created by Macy’s Culinary Council chef Dana Herbert, who shared stories and techniques for preparing his favorite ethnically diverse dishes. A special cultural performance by the Raices Hondureñas Folkloric group, presented by the Embassy of Honduras, was another highlight of the evening.
